I am still on a roll with the online photography challenge. Today’s submission was a tribute to Frida Khalo and we were asked to include something autobiographical, something that would tell the viewers about the person behind the camera. There were beautiful entries as always and since Khalo was known to paint her own images, many took that challenge and photographed themselves. Me? not in a million years. I submitted an image (below) of chocolate... View Article

Who said it always has to be cheese? Crusty on the outside, warm and melty inside and beautifully bitter-sweet, these chocolate creations are easy to make and so good you will not stop at one. I make them on sourdough bread or baguette, not on a regular sandwich bread. The crispy, crusty grilled exterior is too delicious with the melted gooey chocolate inside. No recipe is needed as this much like making a grilled cheese... View Article

I had leftover ganache from something I made the other day so I indulged in a few truffles. I tripple rolled them first in honeycomb I had also made the other day, then in cocoa powder, and last in ground candied hazelnuts, one of my favouriote things to have on hand in the kitchen. My leftovers only made a few but her is a recipe to make more. You should keep them in the... View Article

My husband loves chocolate cakes, I love fruit desserts. So…when I feel like being nice I make him a chocolate cake and if I feel like being really nice I also make a chocolate sauce to go with it. The other day I made a lemon-basil cake and thought I’d make captain G a chocolate cake. This recipe is from Martha Stewart website and since it only calls for cocoa powder, no melted chocolate, I... I saw this microwave molten chocolate cake in a mug online and was intrigued by it. The recipe on these sites is identical so I am not sure where the original comes from. I made it once and had to tweak it just a bit the second time. To bake this in one cup use a 16 oz cup with a wide mouth. Note that this produced a rather large serving so unless you are really... Rich and velvety chocolate ganache sandwiched between two crisp chocolate cookies is a treat for any of the chocoholics out there. If it’s too much chocolate you can use raspberry jam between the cookies instead. I have been on a baking spree lately, baking breads, biscotti, a couple of cakes and orange muffins. I don’t know about you but with me it like that, I get on a roll with one thing or another until... View Article

If you are wavering between the crispy and chewy cookie camps then these cookies are for you. Crispy, chewy, delicious and very quick to make, these would please both sides. This dough can serve as a base for whatever embellishments you may wish to try. You make the dough and then fold in the extras by hand. I have made these cookies with candied ginger, white chocolate, chopped dates, dried cherries and dried cranberries to... View Article

For many home cooks chocolate is one of the scariest things in the kitchen, and in my not-so-humble opinion, for no reason at all. (Golda Meir once said: don’t be so humble, you are not that great). True, things can go wrong, but they don’t have to and in any event, almost all chocolate mistakes can be corrected by simply melting the chocolate and starting again. You can’t say that about other culinary mistakes. More... View Article

Chocolate is always a good idea. Chocolate mousse is a classic, isn’t it? Everyone knows what it is and everyone probably tried it. Classic chocolate mousse is usually made with egg yolks and cream and maybe even espresso. It involves cooking the egg yolks over simmering water, beating the egg whites and combining everything with the melted chocolate. Too much work? Don’t want raw eggs in your mousse? Then his recipe is for you. It... View Article

I love baking cakes but find that I don’t do it very often, saving it for when we have company. The problem is that a regular size 9-10 inch cake is just too much for a couple of servings and I end up wasting a lot. But I like to bake cakes, so, I decided to make a small recipe, enough for 4 individual little cakes that I can play with, fill, decorate, garnish and... View Article
